Category B: A category B yacht is considered to be designed to operate in winds of Beaufort force 8 or less and the associated significant waves heights of up to 4 m. While such conditions typically occur on extended offshore voyages, they may also arise on coastal areas where shelter is not always readily available. These conditions may also be experienced on inland seas of sufficient size to generate a particular wave height.
